Frequently asked questions
Go to the Chessity schools page. You will see the page below. Click on the button to start:
Now you can create the new account. Fill in your details and click on Create account.
View price for desired number of accounts
After this, the page appears on which you can indicate how many accounts you want to buy. Fill in the desired number of accounts to see the price. The more accounts you buy at once, the lower the price. (After purchase, accounts must be activated, after which they will be valid for one year. Unactivated accounts will be kept in store until you need them.) Note: one of the accounts you buy will be set up for the teacher, so always buy one extra account.
Fill in the requested information and click Buy now to purchase the accounts. After a successful payment you will receive a confirmation email. The accounts can then be activated immediately.
All teachers or chess trainers who teach with Chessity need their own coach account. When buying accounts, count not only the number of students who will be working with Chessity, but also the number of teachers at your school or chess club.
When buying accounts, no distinction is made between student accounts and coaching accounts. Only when you activate an account from your stock do you choose whether to use the account for a student or a teacher.
The accounts you have purchased can be found in the tool Manage Student Accounts.
Here you can create accounts for your students, set up classes and change settings. See also: How doe I set up accounts for my students?
Every teacher who teaches with Chessity needs their own coach account. A coach account is a regular account with coach settings. Check your accounts settings to see if your account has coach settings:
Additional coach accounts
Addditional coach accounts for other teachers in your school or chess club are created in the Coach Manager tool on the Coach tab:
Click on the button Add a new teacher or coach:
A pop-up will appear in which you can create a coach account for the teacher/coach:
Does the other teacher/trainer already have a Chessity account? Then use the Add existing account function to give this person coaching rights for your school or club.
Yes, that is possible. Create a new student account for the student in question. It is possible to remove this account within three days after activation (and the account is re-added to the number of available premium accounts). This allows the student to try Chessity for three days.
You can do this here in the Manage Students tool (accessible via the Coach tab in the menu bar). Here is a list of all your students with the corresponding settings. Below you can read what the settings entail and how to use the student management.
1. Add a student to your student management who already has a Chessity account. See also: Can I add an existing Chessity account to my student management.
2. Add a new student. You activate one of your purchased accounts and set it up for the student.
3. Students who have not been active for a long time are no longer shown in the student management. Use this button to make them visible again.
4. Sort the student list by username (alphabetically ascending or descending) or search for a username via the search field.
5. Sort the student list by name (first name alphabetically ascending or descending) or search for a name via the search field.
6. Add notes to the students at your discretion.
7. Sort the student list by group (alphabetically ascending or descending) or search for a group via the search field.
8. Extend the premium account duration by 12 months. These 12 months start after the original expiration date. To extend an account, you must have enough premium accounts in stock.
9. Change the password or personal details of your student.
10. Turn the simplified beginner mode (learning environment for children) on or off. Default setting: simplified mode on.
11. Unlock all lessons for an advanced student. He or she does not need to unlock lessons first. Our advice is to be very cautious with this. Default setting: all lessons locked.
12. Shield the student from contact with strangers. By checking protect student, you ensure that children can only communicate within their own group. Default setting: protected status on.
13. Turn the chat function on or off. The chat function is a popular feature within classes but sometimes leads to unwanted behavior. We recommend allowing this function under normal circumstances because it allows children to practice an important 21st-century skill. Default setting: simplified mode on.
14. Lock or unlock the Arena. In a locked arena, the student must first earn 5 stars per week to play. Default setting: Arena locked with star lock
15. Turn Chessto tasks on or off. Chessto keeps track of which lesson(s) still need to be completed to earn a new sticker on the way to the mock exam. Once a week, Chessto assigns these lesson(s) as a special mission to the students. If the student already has tasks, Chessto does not assign missions. Default setting: Chessto tasks on.
16. Use this green button to expand the 'groups' panel if you don't see it on the screen, or to collapse it.
17. Use this button to purchase one or more new student accounts, which you can activate when you are ready. Above the button, you can see how many accounts you still have in stock.
18. Use this panel to assign your students to groups.
19. Use this panel to remove students from groups.
20. This is a handy feature if you want to adjust settings for multiple students at once. Manually check the students in question or use the option to select all students at once.
21. Here the most important settings are briefly explained again.
If you receive a notification when you create a new student account that the filled in e-mail address is already in use, this means that there is already an account associated with this e-mail address.
This account may be:
- a (free or premium) individual account that your student has
- an account of someone in the same family (parent, brother or sister) using the same e-mail address
Choose your solution
There are several solutions. It depends on the situation which option is best for you to choose:
- Delete the existing account and create a new student account with the same email adress. All old user data will be deleted and cannot be retrieved.
- Change the email address of the existing account. You can now use the desired email address for the new student account.
- Create a student account without entering an email address. Email addresses are optional for student accounts. This option is useful for siblings attending the same school or chess club.
- Convert the existing account to a student account. Your student can continue to use his/her own account, but you now have full coach rights
Due to the coronavirus crisis, schools, chess clubs, and coaches can create free student accounts that allow children to earn the Pawn diploma.
Do you want to take advantage of the opportunity to give students a free Chessity account? Learn how it works here:
Step 1: Go to manage students
Step 2: Click on 'Add a new student'
Step 3: Fill in the student details and click on 'Create account'
NOTE: Make sure there is no checkmark behind 'add subscription' (otherwise a paid account will be deducted from your stock)
The new account has been created and is now in your manage students:
With the accounts you create this way, children can earn the Pawn diploma.
No, the email address is optional, which means you can leave it empty. Note: as a coach, do not enter your own email address with all your students. That does not work. For each Chessity account, a unique email address is required.
If you have purchased accounts for your students, you need to set up a student account for each student individually.
Click on Coach in the menu bar:
You will then see the Coach page; this is the page where all the tools you can use as an instructor in Chessity are located. You create student accounts with the tool Manage student accounts:
You will now enter the dashboard where you create accounts for your students and adjust settings. If you have not yet created student accounts, the list is still empty.
In the top right corner, you can see how many accounts you have in stock:
In this example, there are 20 accounts in stock.
To create an account for a student, click on Add a new student:
A pop-up appears where you can enter the student's details.
All fields marked with an asterisk must be filled in. You may also leave the others blank.
The email address field does not necessarily need to be filled in, but it is useful. The student will receive notifications from you and the program via email. An email address can only be used once within Chessity. You cannot register multiple children with one email address. If the email address is already in use for another family member, you can also leave this field blank.
Do you still want to use an existing email address? Read here what options are available to do this.
It is wise to use a logical system when creating usernames that is easy to remember. For example, the child's first name, preceded by a standard addition per school.
It may seem convenient to include the group in the username, but it is better not to do so. Next school year, the groups will be different again.
Make sure to fill in the student's name correctly, as this name will also be printed on the diploma.
After the new student account is created, the user can be found in your student overview. Here you can also set which usage options you want to activate or deactivate for this student.
After you create a student account, the name of the student appears in your list of student accounts.
Within three days after activating an account, it is possible to remove the account. Click on the recycle bin icon on the far right in the overview. This will remove the account and add it to the number of available premium accounts. You can now create the student’s account again.
Do you only discover the error after three days? Unfortunately, it will no longer be possible to replace the user name (screen name).
If there is an error in your student's first or last name, you can easily edit it in via Manage Student tool on the Coach tab:
Click on the pencil icon of to the student in question:
In the pop-up that appears, change the fields first name and/or last name:
In the menu, go to Coach.
Click on Manage students.
Now click on the blue button Buy more premium accounts and follow the instructions on your screen.
- All chess-related components (lessons, training, games)
- Manage Students
- Dashboard with student tracking system
- The digital board tool 'demo board'
- Tool to assign homework
- Exam tool
- Access to the Chessity Academy
- Access to blogs, community, and forum
Go to the Chessity coach page:
You will then see the page below. Click the button to start:
A new one appears to create the new account. Enter your details and click on Create account. If you already have a Chessity account, use the login button (top right).
View price for desired number of accounts
Next, the page appears where you can indicate how many accounts you want to purchase. Enter the desired number of accounts and you will immediately see how much it costs. The more accounts you buy at once, the lower the price. (After purchase, accounts must be activated, after which they are valid for a year. You can simply keep non-activated accounts until you need them.) Note: one of the accounts you purchase will be set up for the main license; always buy at least the number of students +1 account.
Enter the requested details and click on Buy now to purchase the accounts. After a successful payment, you will receive a confirmation email. The accounts can then be used immediately.

Student accounts created by a teacher or coach can only be deleted within three days after activation. The canceled accounts are added to the number of accounts in stock.
After three days, canceling an account is no longer possible.
However, it is possible to remove students from the student management tool, for instance because they have left school or are no longer a member of the chess club.
Remove student from your student management tool
On the Coach tab, open the tool Manage Students:
Check the student in question. Then, in the drop-down menu below the student list, click Remove students and OK.
Once you have confirmed that you really want to do this, the student is no longer in your student administration.
The account has now been converted into a regular individual account, without any link to a school or club. The user in question can still log in to their Chessity account. After the premium subscription has expired, the user can renew their account themselves.
For subject teachers working at multiple schools or chess trainers active at different clubs, it is convenient if they can manage all student accounts from one account. The teacher can simply log in to their own account and easily access all the school and/or club accounts they use.
How does this work?
- The school or club purchases accounts for the students, plus one extra for a coach account that can manage the students.
- Go to the account settings in the school's/club's coach account (dropdown menu at the top right) and click on 'My account'
- Click on the blue button 'Grant access to other accounts'
- Enter the username of the subject teacher or chess trainer and click 'OK'
The subject teacher or chess trainer can now access and operate the school/club account via their own account:
- Log in to the personal account
- Click on the dropdown menu under the profile picture (top right)
- Select the option Go to another account
- Select the school/club you want to manage
- You are now 'logged in as' the coach account of the school/club
- Done? Then click at the top of your screen on 'Back to your account'
Purchasing and paying by invoice is only possible for schools. In order to compensate for the extra costs we have to make, we charge € 20 to the order. If you want to make use of this possibility, please send an email to contact@chessity.com.
Yes, an existing Chessity account can easily be included in the student management of a school or club. This gives the teacher or chess instructor insight into the results. They can also now adjust the user settings.
There are two possibilities:
- The student has a private individual Chessity account
- The student has a Chessity account through a school or chess club.
Different procedures apply to both situations:
1. The student has a private individual Chessity account
Go to the coach tab and use the tool Manage Students:
Click the blue button 'Add student with existing account':
Enter the username, click on the displayed user, and confirm with add. The user is now conditionally included in your student management:
The student must give permission for external management of their account. The next time the student logs in, they must approve these rights. This message will appear on their start screen:
When the individual subscription expires, the teacher can assign a student account to this existing user via student management. All data will be preserved.
2. The student has a Chessity account through a school or chess club
For a student who already has a Chessity account through a school or chess club, the method above usually cannot be used. Typically, the school/club chooses user settings that shield the student from contact with users outside their own school/chess club. A shielded account is not findable via the 'Add student with existing account' button.
To gain insight into this student's results, you must ask the other coach (who created and manages the student account) to share rights with you (see: Can I assign students to another coach?).
The online safety of our protected users is paramount. Therefore, it is not possible to request this through the system. There must always be personal contact between both coaches.
Accounts are personal. Chessity is an adaptive program, meaning it automatically adjusts to the user's level. Therefore, it is not possible to transfer the account to someone else.
Schools and coaches/associations in the Netherlands can receive an invoice when purchasing accounts.
Schools
Schools can download an invoice for the purchased accounts. To do this, go to My account (menu top right) and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page:
Coaches/associations:
Send a request for invoices to contact@chessity.com. After approval, you will find the invoices at the bottom of the My account page (see image above).
If parents want to include their child's school account in their own family account, the school must assign the student account to the family account (of course, the student account also remains in the school's manage students). For this, you first need to become friends in Chessity.
Then click on the Coach tab (menu bar) and open the Manage students tool.
Check the name of the student you want to assign to a family account. In the dropdown menu 'Choose an action to perform', select the option Assign users to another coach. Enter the username of the family account and click Okay.
Confirm that you want to perform this action:
The student is now shown in both the student tracking system (dashboard, coach others) and in the parents' family account. The parents now also have the rights to change the password or choose other settings for this student.
