Frequently asked questions : Workshop
Chessity offers schools and chess trainers the opportunity to try out the teaching method free of charge during a workshop (demo lesson) with their pupils.
The Chessity workshop is set up in our digital lab. The teacher starts the workshop with a few mouse clicks. After that the students can immediately start to learn chess in a playful way within their own personalized learning environment. With the lesson plan that you will receive in advance, the teacher knows exactly how things work.
Because we want to make sure the workshop is a success, we are on standby to help and answer questions. But with the instructions you get in advance, the workshops always run smoothly.

About 30 students can join at a time. To use Chessity, the students need a computer or tablet with an active internet connection. If necessary, two children can work together on one device.
Very little. A few days before the workshop you will receive clear instructions and a lesson plan by email. Read these carefully (it takes about 15 minutes). Make sure there are enough devices (or book the computer room). Don't forget to invite the director and fellow teachers to come and take a look during the workshop.
Yes. For the Chessity workshop we have put together a lesson plan for teachers. In this ready-made teacher guide the structure, set-up and goals of the workshop are described step by step. There are also suggestions for interaction and group discussion, in which the students, together with the teacher, start thinking about what and how you can learn from chess.
Schools that have signed up for the free Chessity chess workshop will receive this lesson plan together with their login details.

Tip to prevent login problems
Let the students only go to the website after you have started your workshop, otherwise the login process will not work properly.
Sometimes a student accidentally does not come into the workshop environment, but on the regular website. Let the student log in via www.chessity.com/start

Normally, students must first 'unlock' new lessons by doing exercises and lessons.
If there are students in your group who already have good chess skills, the beginner's lessons might be too easy. For these students you can unlock all lessons. He or she does not have to unlock lessons first, but can start with a lesson of their choice.
Note: children often (highly) overestimate their own level. They will start with lessons that are too difficult, which leads to frustration. Taking a step back in level is difficult and frustration for many children.
Our advice is to be very cautious about unlocking all lessons! Do not do this for students who only know how the pieces move, but solely for students who already have a lot of chess experience, for example because they are members of a chess club or have had chess lessons for a longer time.
How to unlock lessons
On the the workshop tool page you will find a list of all active demo accounts. If you don't see this list, refresh the page (F5 for Windows, command-R for iOS, or click on the browser’s refresh arrow) or open the page again via the menu (Coach - Workshop tool).
Check which demo account the student in question has. You can see this on your student’s homepage of the student, on the right side of the screen:
In the workshop tool click on 'unlock lessons' for this demo account:
Freezing of the website this may be due to a too slow or overloaded Wi-Fi connection (or no Wi-Fi connection at all).
Refresh website
Try to refresh the website manually. Press Ctrl + F5 (Windows PC) or command + R (iOS) or click on the browser’s refresh arrow.
Chessity always remembers where the user left off. After the refresh, the student can continue.
Let the student log in again (see below). If the teacher did not click on 'Stop the workshop', all results are saved and the student can continue where he/she left off. After the teacher has stopped the workshop, however, all data are lost and logging in is no longer possible.
This is how the student logs in again:
Type the url (www.chessity.com) in the browser line. A pop-up will appear inviting you to join the workshop.
By clicking on 'I already have a demo account' the student can log in to his own demo account (provided he knows the account name) and continue where he left off.
If a teacher clicks on 'Stop the workshop', all students throughout the school lose connection to the workshop and no longer have access to their results. If you did not click on 'Stop the workshop' yourself, then probably a colleague did this who was not aware that your students were still active.
So never click on 'Stop the workshop' before you actually want to close the workshop for the whole school!

I accidentally clicked on 'Stop the workshop', what now?
By clicking on 'Stop the workshop' you terminate the workshop for all students throughout the school who are currently working with Chessity. The students lose the connection to the workshop and no longer have access to their results.
PLEASE NOTE!
Only click on 'Stop the workshop' if you really want to close the workshop for the whole school and if you are sure that there are no more active groups.
By clicking on 'Stop the workshop' all students throughout the school lose their connection to the workshop and have no longer access to their results. If you accidentally closed the workshop, you can click 'Start the workshop' again. The students can then log in again, but unfortunately they have to start again from scratch.
