Chess Cartoons: Jovan Prokopljević

Jovan Prokopljević is a Serbian architect, award-winning cartoonist and caricaturist; he is known after his gnomish chess players with large noses and rotund bodies that look a little like Prokopljević himself. He lives in Zemun (by the way, it’s my high-school town:)

His father was a chess player, and to honor his memory after his death Prokopljević attended a chess exhibition. At the time, cartoon art had been his hobby, but by 1992 he decided to become a professional cartoonist.

Laureate of numerous special prizes, awards and diplomas at home and abroad: 45 personal exhibitions and around 470 group exhibits. His work has appeared on magazine covers, such as Chess Life. He was awarded the First Prize, Best Cartoon category, by the Chess Journalists of America in 2004.
