Experience chess to the max with these tips
Has chess taken hold of you? As a beginning chess player, sometimes you can't get enough. The learning process is so fast. Every lesson or move you learn something new. Immerse yourself completely in the joy of chess with these tips. Also fun for chess players with a little more experience!
Chess movies and series about chess
When the Netflix series "The Queens Gambit" came out, millions of chess fans worldwide joined in. Haven't seen this series yet? Definitely go watch it. Or read the book! Although as a beginner you probably can't make much sense of the moves that are described, you will still experience the adventure.
Chess boards and pieces
Do you never know what to ask for your birthday? Well, this year you do! Just look at what wonderful chess boards and chess pieces are for sale. New, second-hand, glass, wood, modern or classic. The options are endless. You can proudly display a beautiful chess board in a central spot in your home. That is an open invitation to play a game! As a beginner, you can get started with any chess board. It is a matter of taste. So if you don't want to wait for your birthday, browse around - at the (thrift) store or online - and marvel at the most beautiful chess pieces.
Once that chess board is the key piece in your living room, try out some chess positions on it. For example, a classic opening: the Sicilian. Or set up an exercise where you can rack your brain. It works just like with a piano in the household: before you know it you're playing another string.
And how about a nice chess book on the coffee table? Again, a great gift (for yourself). For the little chess players you can think of handy chess posters or drawings of your kids favorite chess piece.

Chess boards around town
You may not have noticed it before you started playing chess yourself. However, in many towns and cities you will find large chess boards or chess tables. Compare it to a bocce ball court or hopscotch. You can use it for free and they often look nice. Like us at Chessity, the initiators of 'Urban Chess' want to show that chess is for everyone. A beautiful mission. We are curious to know when you spot the first chess table or life-size chess pieces.
Chess events
Want to see the real chess heroes at work, or have a go yourself? Find a chess event near you. Our favorite event is the Tata Steel Chess Tournament. That's where chess heroes from around the world come together. But it's also a great party for beginners. Chessity has been involved in organizing fun events during this chess event for several years. Looking for something a little bit smaller? Check out a tournament at your local chess club. Or play an online tournament in Chessity! You don't have to leave your house for that and it costs you nothing.
