Zilveren Toren 2014 2014.02.14

Before we started to analyse this game, my coach Yelena Dembo said:"Against a player with lower rating you have to play more aggressivly and thrust yourself that you can outcalculated him".

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Nc3

BD_7436_55_0.pngDiagram #1

( 4.d4 ( 4.Ng5)4... exd4 5.e5 d5 6.Bb5 Ne4 7.Nxd4)

4... Be7 (4... Bc5)

5.O-O O-O 6.d4 d6 7.h3 h6 8.Be3 a6 9.Qe2

Qd2 was better in this position but somehow I got distracted by wanting a rook on the d-file so I could take on e5, offcourse forgetting black may move aswell.

( 9.Qd2 ( 9.a4 ( 9.d5 Nb8 10.Qd2 ( 10.Nh2))))

9... Re8 10.Rad1

BD_7436_55_2.pngDiagram #3

11.Qd2 ( 11.d5 Na5 ( Nb8) 12.Bd3 b5 13.b4)

11... Bf8

BD_7436_55_3.pngDiagram #4

(11... b5 12.Bd3 exd4 13.Nxd4 Ne5)

12.dxe5 ( 12.d5 Ne7)

12... dxe5 13.a4 Qc8 14.Kh2 Rd8 ( Be6 15.Bxe6 Qxe6)

15.Qe2 b6 16.Nh4 ( 16.Nd5 Nxe4 ( Nxd5 ( Nh7 17.Rd2) 17.exd5) 17.Bxb6 ( 17.Bxh6))

16... Be7 17.Ng6 Bd6 18.Rxd6

The start of a little combination of trying to win the Q. Also thought that if I dont do anything here I will get nowhere in this position. So I used the Dembo rule "If you want ...".

( 18.Nd5)

18... cxd6 19.Nd5 Nxd5 20.Bxd5 ( 20.exd5 Bf5 ( fxg6 21.dxc6+ Be6 22.Bxe6+ Qxe6 23.Bxb6) 21.dxc6 Bxg6 22.Bd5)

20... Rb8

BD_7436_55_4.pngDiagram #5

21.Qc4 ( 21.Qh5 Be6 22.Bxh6)

21... Be6

And my opponent cracks under the continue presure. In the resulting position I always am a full piece ahead.

22.Qxc6 Qxc6 23.Ne7+ Kf8 24.Nxc6 Bxd5 25.exd5 Ke8 26.f4

Want to open the position for my Rook, afterall as long the two rooks are attacked I can take one when I decide to take one.

26... f6 27.fxe5 dxe5 28.Nxd8 Kxd8 29.c4 Kd7 30.b4 Kd6 31.Bxb6 Rxb6 32.c5+ Kxd5 33.cxb6

Good game! The reason 4.Nc3 is not that popular is that black has the strong move 4...Nxe4! when 5.Nxe4 d5 wins back the piece with a very satisfactory game. If instead 5.Bxf7+ Kxf7 6.Nxe4 black has lost the right to castle, but after 6...d5 the strong centre plus the bishop pair give him the better chances anyway. I would recommend to study the entertaining 4.Ng5!?
